Foreword by the Rev'd Philip Ashdown Vicar of St Peter's
In a recent national census, 72%of the population described themselves as Christians. Not all these people are attending church: for numerous reasons, individuals now seem to believe but not belong, hence the number attending churches is declining.
One reason for creating this web site is to enable the parish of Stockton St Peter's to have some contact with those who feel sympathetic to the Christian faith, but for various reasons do not attend any place of worship. It is very important that those in churches listen to those who feel unable to join church communities.
For me the heart of Christianity is in Jesus' challenging command to love God and love our neighbour. It is only by making contact with our neighbours that we can begin to respond to that challenge.
I hope that this web page will give you an appreciation of how people who meet at St Peter's and All Saints churches in Stockton express their faith - not only through worship, but also through their lives.
